The Strange Bedfellows Rip-Off
July 24th 2007 12:00
So there’s this controversy about whether or not the latest Adam Sandler movie, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, is a rip-off of the Australian film Strange Bedfellows, starring Paul Hogan and Michael Caton.
There are stark similarities between the two films, and predicting that the Adam Sandler movie will be a hit, as all his movies inexplicably are, the Australian producers and co. are threatening legal action.
The story goes that Michael Caton, while filming a movie with Rob Schneider, lent a copy of Strange Bedfellows to him. Adam Sandler was the producer of the movie, and a friend of Schneider, so it doesn’t take much of a coincidence to imagine that Schneider lent said copy to Sandler. Sandler would then presumably start making the alleged rip-off.
But the situation raises some important questions. They are listed below.
1) Why on earth would you want to make a rip-off of Strange Bedfellows?
2) Why on earth would you take career advice from Rob Schneider?
3) Why on earth isn’t Pauly Shore in either of the two movies?
4) Am I the only person left on earth who uses the expression ‘why on earth’?
Food for thought.
