Influenza Part Two
August 8th 2007 01:59
I toyed with calling this entry Flu2, after everyone's favourite over-earnest Dublin band, but then I realised that over-earnest Dublin bands is a rather narrow field, and most people as a result don't care for U2. Oh well.
I had a terrible night’s sleep last night. Actually, I say last night. My system of backlogging blog entries means that to you it would be Sunday night/Monday morning. But it shouldn’t matter. It’s not like you were there.
They say that the best thing for the flu is a good night’s sleep. I am one of the ‘They’ who say that. It’s all part of my war on Cold and Flu tablets. They don’t work, people. But sleep is hard when you have the flu. There’s the sore joints and the headache and the blocked nose and everything, so falling asleep is hard. What’s worse is the constant recurring dreams about the Northern territory legal system, only everything is pixellated like in a Sega Master System Game. It’s horrible. Then I would wake up, have a drink of water, fall asleep and have the same dream.
And last night was the night with which my bedside clock would mess up. It’s a very reliable clock, and it hasn’t needed a new battery for about six years. The used by date on the battery actually says 2004. That’s how efficient this clock is. But not much comfort to me when in a daze of influenza, to wake up, look at the clock and see that it is midday, but pitch black outside. Surely I would have been told of a solar eclipse?
It turned out that it was 3:32am. Sigh. More of the endless grind of uncomfortable sleep. Influenza manages to suck the fun out of everything. Eating is a struggle. Sleeping is a struggle. Even watching High Fidelity yesterday made me dizzy. And that’s my second favourite movie. Sigh.
More tomorrow.
